Republicans’ approval of SCOTUS drops to historical lows: Gallup released a poll this morning which further illustrates the bitter partisan divide in the US. The July 8-12 poll was conducted after the Supreme Court made its two big decisions on the Affordable Care Act and gay marriage. It won’t shock you to find that Democrats’ approval of the Supreme Court almost doubled from September of last year – from 47 percent to 76 percent! Conversely, Republicans’ support of the nine justices has plummeted…to 18 percent. According to the report, “Republicans’ and Democrats’ views of the Supreme Court are more disparate than at any time in the past 15 years.” Look at the historical ups and downs of the public’s approval of SCOTUS: Trump illuminates the GOP’s dark soul: I very rarely agree with Richard Cohen at the Washington Post, but today’s column is an exception. He argues : Americans frightened by a changing and, when it comes to good middle-class jobs, constricting economy are looking for a champion. They see one in Trump, a Mussolini with a comb-over, who is now as much admired for the enemies he’s making as for his inflammatory statements on immigration. For the moment, he stands alone. If his numbers stay high, he won’t be alone for long. Cohen’s analysis is right: Trump will not be alone for long. My money is on Rick Santorum and Bobby Jindal to also “ fire up the crazies .” Clinton is dominating the Latino vote: Univision’s recent poll shows that “of the Hispanic voters interviewed, 73% state that they would vote for [Clinton], while none of her Democratic rivals approaches showing double digits.” These figures represent an excellent start to her 2016 campaign. The percent of kindergartners in Washington who were vaccinated for polio has dropped from 95.4 percent in 1998 to 88.4 percent today.
